TVS design a dramatic cluster of architectural and engineering innovation, Dubai
January 2, 2008
The dramatic ‘Dubai Towers - Dubai’ have been announced as the centerpiece for ‘The Lagoons’ development. Both the towers and the master planned development were designed by TVS. The four towers, ranging from 54 to 97 floors, are clustered to form a choreographed sculpture, representing the movement of candlelight. The Towers will combine in form to represent the evolutionary and innovative achievements of Dubai. The architectural expressions are guided by a sophisticated aesthetic with structural and engineering innovations unmatched by any modern structure. The ‘Dubai Towers - Dubai’ will be characterized by a range of additional facilities including retail, entertainment, and residential which merge to create a vibrant, dynamic community. The estimated completion date is mid 2010.
TVS Architects Design New Island Community In Dubai
$17.7 Billion waterfront project one of the largest in Dubai
ATLANTA – June 21, 2006 – TVS Architects announced today that Sama Dubai, a division of Dubai Holding, commissioned the Atlanta-based architectural firm to design the conceptual vision for “The Lagoons,” a 70-million square foot waterfront project in Dubai. The concept is composed of seven man-made islands, set in the midst of lagoons in Dubai Creek. The Lagoons will be a spectacular new community combining waterways, harbors, lush landscapes and iconic skyscrapers. Each of the seven islands is dedicated to a specific functioning theme and will include residential units, shopping centers, office buildings and marinas.
“The Lagoons is a response to the growing need in Dubai for a community encompassing the energy of city living within a setting harmonious with the environment,” says Behr Champana, Vice President, TVS International. “This project is sure to become a landmark development for the area and TVS is pleased to be part of the excitement.”
Construction on The Lagoons began in April of 2006. Farhan Faraidooni, CEO of Sama Dubai states, “We are keen to implement all project phases by 2010. The project has attracted a number of local and Gulf investors since its launch and more than 20% of the allotted lands for sale were sold out within the first two weeks.”
Strategically located in the heart of Dubai, The Lagoons will combine all the necessities of city life within a serene and natural environment. The project centers around concepts of environment, conservation, parkland and open spaces. The Lagoons is a landmark real estate project being formed by extending Dubai Creek further inland. The island community is located next to the Ras Al Khor Wildlife Santuary and is one of the first projects in Dubai undergoing an Integrated Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) following international standards across all phases of the project. Culture will also be a big focus with the construction of a planetarium, museum, art center, theatre and the city’s first opera house.
Dubai is the second largest Emirate in the United Arab Emirates after Abu Dhabi and is located on the Persian Gulf, southwest of Sharjah and northeast of Abu Dhabi. The Lagoons at Dubai Creek is part of a master plan launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, to make the Emirate a premier destination in the world. The UAE is one of the world’s wealthiest countries and has the third-largest proven oil reserves in the world. While oil and gas production helped form its foundation, Dubai is unique to the region as the only Emirate with an economy that does not rely on oil. Dubai’s annual GDP growth of 6 percent has made it a popular relocation option for Western companies.
